Instead of only counting listings, it focuses on the subset of active firms that have enough rating and review data to support meaningful comparisons. The strongest markets are not always the biggest states by population. In some states, consumers have more ranked firms to compare. In others, review depth is concentrated in a few metros. We track both so readers can see where CPA review coverage is broad, where it is deep, and where there is still room for stronger local discovery.
California currently has the deepest ranked CPA pool in our dataset, with 1,258 firms meeting the review thresholds and 38,428 reviews analyzed.

For these research pages, ranked firms are active listings with a Google rating of at least 4.0 and at least 3 reviews. That threshold helps remove ultra-thin profiles from the ranking layer.
